Criminal Division Unit
Welcome to the Criminal Division of the Office of the Attorney General in Seychelles, where we operate in accordance with the constitutional mandate outlined in Article 76. Our primary responsibility is the prosecution of criminal cases on behalf of the Republic of Seychelles, with the authority to take over, continue, or discontinue proceedings initiated by any entity.
The Criminal Division executes the constitutional mandate granted by Article 76. The Attorney General, empowered by this provision, is entrusted with the prosecution of criminal cases and holds the discretionary power to manage legal proceedings initiated by others. Importantly, the Attorney-General operates independently without external direction or control.
Our division includes an active Public Prosecution Section, led by the Chief Public Prosecutor. This section predominantly handles cases brought by the Republic of Seychelles in the Magistrates’ Courts, ensuring robust legal representation in these proceedings.
