The Legislative Drafting Division of the Attorney General’s Office
The term Legislative drafting denotes the gathering, understanding and translation of policy decisions emanating from specific Government Departments to concise legislation in the form of an Act, regulations or an Order.
To achieve this, the office of the Attorney General employs Legislative drafting counsels in its Legislative Drafting Division who carry out the Attorney-General’s function of drafting national laws.
A legislative counsel’s work transcends the drafting of legislation. It entails offering advice to various government departments and determining whether or not the enactment of a particular law is apposite in the Seychelles context. Thus, policy decisions emanating from these departments need to be thoroughly examined ensuring that an eventual enactment is in alignment with the Constitution and that no other law is consequently contravened.
